How To Move From Independent to Interdependent Within Marriage

When you adjust to being interdependent, you will find it will go more smoother in the marriage when it comes to decisions, be open to submit to your husband as When people have been legally, physically or mentally single for a long period of time, they tend to have issues with releasing their independence and exchanging it for interdependence when it comes to becoming one in marriage. They are used to doing things by themselves and for themselves without the permission from another person. As ladies we tend to struggle with it the most, especially when someone owns their own business, financially established or has been a single mom for a period of years raising children on our own.

So first things first. What is the different between being independent verses interdependent? Here are the definitions listed below:

independent: not dependent; not subject to control by others

As a single woman (or single mom) is a strength of independence that is gained; you have taken care of yourself without depending or considering another person’s thoughts or input about decisions being made pertaining to you or your household. You have been the sole provider and the only One you look to for input is God. When it comes to marriage, you have to allow God to help you to release the independent mindset and trade it for the interdependent mindset. It is not about just you anymore but it is you and your husband. You have someone who will pray with you and for you; to stand and fight with you and for you and who loves you unconditionally.

Here is the definition of interdependent below:

related in such a way that each needs or depends on the other; mutually dependent
unto the Lord; gracefully and with the respect that God wants and desires for you to give to your husband. 😊 This will not happen overnight because it is a process, especially when you have been living independently on your own for a long time before you go to the altar. As a wife and husband, you are to lean and depend on one another and mainly the Lord to carry you through each and every trial, tribulation and setback. You two are one flesh and it is God who has fused you two together; to be each other’s companions, be selfless, consider one another and help each other. When you follow the instructions and order of the Lord, He will bless you both. Don’t allow any residual independent mindset to affect your marriage or your relationship with God, nor any disagreements; you can agree to disagree. Trust God and your spouse.

Proverbs 3:5,6

Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not to your Him understanding; in all ways acknowledge Him and He shall direct your path.

Mark 10:9

What therefore what God bath joined together, let no man put asunder.

God bless your marriage 💑❤
